Mary Frances “Mary Fran” (Applegate) Madjak, of Woodstock passed away on Wednesday February 12, 2025 in McHenry IL, after a brief illness.
She was born: July 31, 1940 in Washington, D.C., the only child of Charles F. and Genevieve G. (Garrett) Applegate.
Early on Mary Fran moved with her parents to Joliet, IL where she attended St. Francis Academy and Joliet Junior College. In Joliet is where she met the man of her dreams, her husband Robert “Bob” Madjak also of Joliet. They were married a few years later on October 10, 1964.
They had three children, Jennifer (Bob) Seegers, Jr, of Woodstock, Kerri (Paul) Hagy of Hinsdale and Charles “Chip” (Barb) Madjak of Crystal Lake. They also had four grandsons, Brett and Cade Seegers and Grant and Charlie Hagy, a nephew Rob (Susan Schmidt) and a niece Lisa Hogan.
She moved with her three children and Bob to Batavia, IL as he began his banking career and there they lived for almost twenty years. She was active in the Auxiliary of Geneva Community Hospital, the Fox Hill Home for unwed mothers and was a very active room mother for her three children. She also had a very closeknit group of friends while in Batavia which became lifelong. Mary Fran and Bob ended up settling in Woodstock where Mary Fran was involved in many volunteer organizations and held many board seats including the Auxiliary of Memorial Hospital, Woodstock Garden Club, Woodstock Fine Arts Association and Friends of the Woodstock Opera House. She loved playing bridge with her Woodstock Country Club ladies and researching genealogy thus becoming a member of the prestigious Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary Fran also enjoyed traveling the world, doting on her four grandsons, gardening, and wintering in Florida.
Mary Fran was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of over 60 years in December 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Fran’s name can be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate (Joliet, IL) and/or Friends of the Woodstock Opera House.
A Graveside Service and a Celebration of Life is planned for late Spring.
