The Woodstock High School girls basketball team, hosting Woodstock North Saturday night, led from start to finish in a 50-28 victory over their crosstown rival.

The Streaks (8-14, 3-5 FVC) were led by junior Chrissy Velasquez's game-high 15 points. Senior Abby Haubold tossed in nine points.

Woodstock coach Marty Hammond said the game had special meaning to the Blue Streaks, after suffering a 38-35 loss to the Thunder Jan. 5.

"Kind of a redemption game," said Hammond. "The girls were frustrated by that outcome, and they played their hearts out. They know that from here on in they've got to play this same intensity level. If they do we'll have some success."

Clearly frustrated, Thunder coach Mike Lewis was whistled for a technical foul late in the game. Lewis wasn't happy that his team was outhustled by the Blue Streaks.

"Clearly, we didn't want it as bad as they did," Lewis said. "I felt like we played a little scared. They had more heart tonight than we did, and that's upsetting because that's usually something we pride ourselves on."

Sophomore guard Haylee Nutter led the Thunder (7-16, 1-10 FVC) in scoring with seven points. Freshman Emma Everly contributed five points.
